A 63-year-old man, Ayyub Khan, died by suicide at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday, August 17. He was admitted to the hospital on August 13 and was supposed to have hernia surgery the next day. Khan, who worked as a truck driver and lived in Indira Nagar in Tandur, Vikarabad district, was staying in a ward on the second floor of the hospital.
On Sunday, Khan reportedly jumped out of a bathroom window on the second floor. He was seriously injured and rushed to the emergency ward, but despite doctors’ efforts, he could not be saved and passed away during treatment. The hospital’s superintendent, Dr. Rakesh Sahay, confirmed the sad incident.
Khan’s family expressed that he might have been frightened about the upcoming surgery. His son stated that Khan had been mentally unstable for some time, which could have contributed to his tragic decision.
The Afzalgunj police have registered a case of suicide and are conducting an investigation. Circle Inspector Santosh mentioned that, based on his son’s statement, fear of the surgery may have been a major reason. The incident has brought attention to the need for mental health support for patients facing major medical procedures.
