Swiggy’s new Toing app offers meals priced mostly between ₹100 and ₹150, targeting students and young professionals in select Pune neighborhoods
Swiggy has launched a new standalone food delivery app called Toing, which focuses on offering affordable meal options primarily to budget-conscious consumers. Unlike Swiggy’s main app which often competes in saturated markets, Toing’s initial launch has targeted Pune, a city known for its large student population and young working professionals. This shift from Bengaluru, Swiggy’s typical test market, is driven by Pune’s relatively underpenetrated food delivery sector and favorable demographics.
Toing aims to cater to college students and fresh graduates with limited disposable income who still want to enjoy restaurant meals at affordable prices. The app offers dishes mostly priced between ₹100 and ₹150, including burgers, sandwiches, pasta, cakes, desserts, and mini meals. This approach makes Toing more accessible for users who may find regular food delivery costly or out of budget. Swiggy has also priced the platform fee lower on Toing, charging ₹12 compared to ₹14.99 on the main app, and offers free delivery for orders above ₹99.
Currently, Toing operates in four to five selected pincodes within Pune, including areas like Kothrud, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Aundh, and Pimple Saudagar. Swiggy does not plan immediate expansion beyond these initial locations, preferring to carefully test demand and logistics in this focused region. The new app’s green and pink color scheme differentiates it visually from Swiggy’s main platform, reinforcing its distinct market positioning.
Toing enters a competitive segment where other players such as Rapido’s food delivery app Ownly also vie for price-conscious customers. Interestingly, Swiggy recently divested its stake in Rapido, signaling its intent to independently build its presence in this segment. Through Toing and other offerings like the Rs 99 Store and Snacc app, Swiggy is broadening its portfolio to capture various consumer segments across India’s evolving food delivery market.
As competition intensifies in affordable food delivery, Swiggy’s launch of Toing in Pune demonstrates a strategic pivot to address price-sensitive audiences in emerging urban hubs. Whether this focused approach can translate into significant market share and profitability remains to be seen, but it highlights how foodtech companies are innovating to meet the diverse demands of Indian consumers.
