AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal criticizes Congress and BJP while rallying support amid electoral challenges.
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday alleged a conspiracy between Congress and BJP, questioning why no major Congress leader has been arrested in the ongoing National Herald case. Speaking to party MLAs and councillors at the Constitutional Club, he pointed out that while five top AAP leaders have been jailed, not a single Congress leader has faced similar consequences in what he described as an “open-and-shut” case involving the Gandhi family.
Kejriwal further claimed that he had been urged by several people to “compromise” with the BJP but had steadfastly refused. He emphasized that their political journey was motivated by patriotism rather than compromise. He cautioned against sacrificing principles for party interests, power, or personal gains, stating, “If I have to compromise, I will compromise for my country.”
The AAP currently holds MLAs in Goa, Gujarat, and Kashmir but is in power only in Punjab after losing the recent Delhi Assembly polls. The party’s primary political challenge is to maintain its governance in Punjab in the upcoming 2027 elections, where Congress stands as the biggest opposition force. Political analysts see Kejriwal’s attack on Congress and the Gandhi family in the context of this rivalry and the recent disagreements with the INDIA Bloc.
In addition to his criticism of Congress, Kejriwal took a swipe at the BJP government in Delhi. He alleged deteriorating public services under BJP rule, including frequent power cuts, rising private school fees, broken roads, and poor sewer systems. He also accused the BJP of making life difficult for the poor by demolishing slums.
Responding to these accusations, the Delhi BJP questioned Kejriwal’s leadership, noting that less than half of AAP’s elected representatives were present at the meeting. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that many AAP leaders had distanced themselves from the party post-elections, suggesting Kejriwal had lost the trust of his own party members.
