Asia Cup 2025: Haris Rauf’s ‘6-0’ Gesture Sparks Controversy, Indian Fans Tease Him with ‘Kohli’ Chants

The Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 21, saw controversy both on and off the field. Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was caught on camera taunting Indian fans with the infamous 6-0 gesture, which has since gone viral on social media.

The 6-0 hand sign is a reference to Pakistan’s baseless claims of having shot down six Indian fighter jets during the four-day conflict following Operation Sindoor. The gesture has sparked outrage among cricket fans, who called it “provocative and unsporting.”

On the field, Pakistan struggled to defend their total of 171 runs, eventually losing the match by 6 wickets. Rauf, however, had some impact with the ball, returning figures of 2/26 in four overs. He dismissed Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for a three-ball duck and later sent Sanju Samson back after he scored 13 runs off 17 balls.

Suryakumar was caught by Abrar Ahmed in the 11th over of India’s chase, while Samson fell prey to Rauf’s fiery pace. Despite these breakthroughs, India comfortably chased down the target.

Adding to the drama, Rauf faced a barrage of ‘Virat Kohli’ chants from Indian fans while fielding near the boundary ropes. Even though Kohli was not part of the playing XI, supporters invoked his name to remind Rauf of the iconic moment from the 2022 T20 World Cup, when Kohli smacked him for two consecutive sixes in the 19th over at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Videos of the chants quickly spread online, showing Rauf reacting by gesturing for the crowd to raise their voices even louder. The incident added an entertaining yet controversial twist to the already heated rivalry between India and Pakistan.

With India’s clinical victory, the team maintained its strong record against Pakistan in major tournaments, while Rauf’s antics ensured that the post-match discussions were dominated more by controversy than cricket.
