Delhi High Court questioned Priya Sachdev Kapur’s demand for an NDA before disclosing late husband Sunjay Kapur’s assets in the ongoing family dispute.
The family dispute over industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s estimated ₹30,000 crore estate intensified on Thursday, as the Delhi High Court questioned the demand made by his wife Priya Sachdev Kapur for a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before revealing details of her late husband’s assets.
Justice Jyoti Singh, hearing the matter, asked Priya’s counsel: “How much can go in a sealed cover? There is a limit to court proceedings. How do I pass this order? Show me the judgment that says you can seek confidentiality.”
Priya Sachdev Kapur has filed a petition seeking directions that Sunjay’s children from his second wife, actor Karisma Kapoor, and his mother Rani Kapur sign an NDA before she discloses the full list of movable and immovable assets. She argued the step was necessary in the interest of cybersecurity and privacy.
The High Court had earlier, on September 12, ordered Priya to disclose all assets belonging to her late husband as of June 12, the day he passed away. During Thursday’s hearing, Priya said she was not refusing disclosure but insisted that confidentiality was essential.
“Everything is being leaked in the media. It is embarrassing how they are conducting press conferences outside the court gate after the hearings. Why should the public at large have access to bank details? There are cybersecurity threats,” she told the court.
Priya added that sensitive financial information could cause irreparable harm if made public, further justifying her insistence on an NDA.
However, counsel for Karisma Kapoor’s children opposed the NDA demand, arguing that it would prevent them from questioning the purported will of Sunjay Kapur. They further alleged that “all the money has been wiped off from the bank account mentioned in the will.”
The High Court has yet to decide on the NDA request but signaled reluctance to enforce confidentiality without precedent, leaving the next steps in the high-profile estate battle uncertain.
