CM MK Stalin during his address in Chennai pledged that the DMK will always protect the rights of Muslims and criticised BJP and AIADMK over CAA, Triple Talaq and Waqf law issues.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin assured the Muslim community that the DMK will always stand by them and protect their rights. Speaking at an event in Chennai to mark the 1,500th birthday of Prophet Muhammad, Stalin hit out at both the BJP and the AIADMK, accusing them of betraying the interests of Muslims.
The CM slammed the BJP-led Centre over the Waqf law amendment, asserting that only due to the legal fight by the DMK and others, the Supreme Court has stayed provisions of the controversial amendment. He further accused the AIADMK of siding with the BJP on issues such as the CAA and triple talaq, which led to leaders like Anwar Raja quitting the AIADMK to join the DMK.
Stalin recalled that DMK founder CN Annadurai and former CM M Karunanidhi first met at a Milad-un-Nabi event in Tiruvarur, and their bond became the foundation of Tamil Nadu’s political growth. He praised Prophet Muhammad’s teachings of equality and love, which, he said, were echoed by reformist leader Periyar EVR and former DMK stalwarts.
Pointing to the presence of leaders from IUML, MMK, MJK, and SDPI, Stalin said unity is the first step towards victory. He also expressed deep concern over the atrocities in Gaza, urging the Central government to take immediate action for peace and justice for Palestinians.
Highlighting DMK’s welfare initiatives for Muslims, Stalin mentioned 3.5% internal reservation in the BC category, inclusion of Urdu-speaking Muslims in the BC list, the formation of an Urdu Academy, a welfare board for minorities, and the construction of a new Haj House near Chennai airport.
He reminded the gathering that it was Karunanidhi who declared Milad-un-Nabi a state holiday in 1969, which was later scrapped by the AIADMK in 2001 but reinstated by the DMK in 2006. Referring to SDPI’s demand to include Prophet Muhammad’s teachings in school textbooks, he noted that it has already been added to the curriculum.
Reaffirming DMK’s position, Stalin declared: “If Muslims face trouble, the first political outfit that comes to your support is the DMK. Always, the DMK will be among you, and the DMK will always protect and secure your rights.”
