GHMC Standing Committee, chaired by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, discusses closure of meat shops on special occasions and clears several development projects.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee has discussed and approved a series of proposals during its meeting held on Wednesday, September 24, at the GHMC headquarters. The meeting, chaired by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, reviewed 14 agenda items and 10 table items.
One of the key proposals placed before the committee would empower the GHMC Commissioner to issue orders to close all retail meat shops, beef shops, sheep, goat, and cattle slaughterhouses within GHMC limits on special occasions each year, whenever deemed necessary.
The committee also recommended naming the new flyover connecting Lower Tank Bund to the Secretariat as the Telangana Thalli Flyover.
In sports infrastructure, the committee approved modernization works for the Mallepally football ground (Ward-76) at an estimated cost of ₹4.85 crore. It also sought approval for user charges for sports activities at the KPHB Multipurpose Sports Complex in Moosapet and permission to recruit employees through outsourcing at the Bandlaguda Multipurpose Sports Stadium.
For better utilization of public spaces, approval was sought for handing over the operation and maintenance of the Sports Zone under the RK Puram flyover in Malkajgiri Circle, Division 136, to an experienced private agency.
The committee also approved signing a Memorandum of Association with Snehitha Self Help Group (SHG) for a three-year period to operate the Indira Mahila Shakti canteen at GHMC headquarters.
On infrastructure, the committee discussed the maintenance of street lights, deciding between floating new tenders or extending existing contracts with 17 DIC vendors. The extension of M/s IBI Group (I) Ltd’s contract until December 19, 2025, was also approved.
Further approvals included the acquisition of 52 properties for road overbridges (ROB) and road underbridges (RUB) at RK Puram under the H-City projects, reconstruction of London Bridge in Yakutpura’s SRT Colony using NSS consultant services at a cost of ₹29.5 crore, and several works covering box drains, storm water drains, CC roads, graveyards, and crematorium development.
