Police inspect the Bhavnagar house where a bride-to-be was allegedly killed an hour before her wedding
What should have been a night of celebration in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, turned into a shocking tragedy when a bride-to-be was allegedly killed by her fiancé just an hour before their wedding ceremony.
The incident occurred near Tekri Chowk in the Prabhudas Lake area on Saturday evening.
Argument Over Saree and Money Escalates
According to the police, the couple — Sajan Baraiya and Soni Himmat Rathod — had been living together for over a year despite strong opposition from both families.
Most pre-wedding rituals were already completed, and the final ceremony was scheduled for Saturday night.
However, a heated argument broke out between them over a saree and money shortly before the ceremony.
In a sudden fit of rage, Sajan allegedly picked up an iron pipe and attacked Soni.
Police say he also smashed her head against the wall, killing her on the spot.
Accused Flees After Vandalising the House
Before escaping, Sajan reportedly vandalised the house, leaving the room overturned and scattered.
Neighbors alerted the police, and a team arrived quickly to assess the situation. Soni’s body was sent for post-mortem as forensic teams began their examination.
Police Statement on the Incident
Deputy Superintendent of Police RR Singhal confirmed the details:
“The couple were living together for one to one-and-a-half years. Yesterday was their wedding. They had an argument over a saree and money.
During the argument, Sajan hit Soni with an iron pipe and smashed her head against the wall, killing her on the spot.”
Police have assured that a detailed investigation is underway.
History of Aggressive Behaviour
Sources have revealed that earlier the same day, the accused fought with a neighbour, and a police complaint had already been lodged against him.
Now, a separate case has been filed in connection with the murder, and efforts are on to trace and arrest him.
