Hyderabad Police report reveals major decline in crime, including murders, cybercrime, and rape cases, though dowry deaths increased.
1. Overall Crime Reduction
The Hyderabad police, in a report released on September 28, revealed a 17% overall reduction in crime since August 2024. Police commissioner CV Anand said Hyderabad has seen a significant improvement in law and order compared to the previous year.
2. Violent Crimes Decline
Murder cases fell from 85 (2023-24) to 73 (2024-25), a 14% drop. Attempted murders also reduced sharply by 29%, while kidnapping cases dropped by 12%. Cases of intentional hurt fell slightly from 2,049 to 2,037.
3. Cybercrime Trends
Cybercrime cases saw a 14% reduction (from 4,348 to 3,745). Importantly, the detection rate improved from 40% to 42%, reflecting better policing methods in the digital space.
4. Property Offences and Recovery Rates
Property offences dropped by 26%, from 5,484 last year to 4,082 this year. Recovery rates improved from 54% to 55%.
- Robbery cases fell 46% but recovery dipped.
- Burglary cases declined by 2% with improved recovery (80%).
- Theft cases reduced from 4,778 to 3,501, with recovery improving slightly to 51%.
5. Crime Against Women
Rape cases declined by 23% (from 632 to 485). Cases of outraging modesty also dropped by 20%. However, dowry deaths increased by 18% (from 11 to 13). Kidnapping of women reduced by 10%, while harassment cases remained almost unchanged.
6. Police Commissioner’s Statement
Commissioner CV Anand praised the teamwork of Hyderabad Police, saying their efforts ensured festivals, processions, and public gatherings passed peacefully. He called on officers to continue working together toward making Hyderabad a truly “Crime-Free City.”
