Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrest accused in nude video call extortion case
A young man from Hyderabad’s Old City was allegedly duped of ₹3.41 lakh after being trapped in a nude video call scam and blackmailed by cyber fraudsters posing as police personnel.
How the Scam Unfolded
According to police, the incident occurred in the Goli Guda area of Hyderabad. The victim received a WhatsApp video call from an unknown woman who introduced herself as Jyoti Gupta. Over time, she befriended the youth through regular conversations and gained his trust.
During one such interaction, the woman initiated a nude video call and allegedly coerced the victim into undressing, secretly recording the entire call.
Threats Posed as Police Officers
Soon after the call ended, the victim received another video call in which men dressed in police uniforms appeared on screen, claiming to be law enforcement officials. They threatened the victim that the recorded video would be shared on social media and WhatsApp groups of his relatives if he failed to pay money.
Under fear and continuous intimidation, the youth transferred ₹3.41 lakh to the fraudsters.
Cyber Crime Police Action
Unable to bear the repeated blackmail and threats, the victim approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police and lodged a complaint.
Following an investigation, the cyber crime team registered a case and arrested four accused involved in the extortion racket. Police are continuing the probe to identify additional members of the gang and trace the money trail.
Police Advisory
Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have once again urged citizens to remain cautious while interacting with unknown persons online and warned against engaging in video calls with strangers, especially when they demand explicit content.
