Court proceedings underway in the espionage case against Jyoti Malhotra regarding default bail arguments and police investigation
Jyoti Malhotra, arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, had her default bail plea argued in court by lawyer Kumar Mukesh. On Monday, the police submitted their response to Civil Judge Sunil Kumar’s court, which was challenged by Malhotra’s counsel, claiming that the cases cited by police were unrelated to Jyoti’s matter.
In their application to the court, the police requested a ban on media briefings about the case, withholding a portion of the data received from the Panchkula lab, and not providing the sealed chat records from the charge sheet to the accused. During the hearing, the government lawyer stated that the investigation was ongoing and sharing sensitive information could hamper the process. The police emphasized that confidential details should not be given to the accused party.
Lawyer Kumar Mukesh based the default bail petition for Jyoti Malhotra on the government counsel’s assertion regarding incomplete investigation. Earlier, the court had sought a response from the police on Saturday, and the police requested time until Monday to file their reply.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its order. The verdict on Jyoti Malhotra’s default bail plea will be announced on Tuesday, September 2.
