Milad un Nabi processions in Hyderabad’s Old City were conducted after Ganesh idol immersions, ensuring peaceful celebrations for all communities
Milad un Nabi processions are being held today, September 14, in various parts of Hyderabad, including Shah Ali Banda, Charminar, Nampally, Yakutpura, and other areas. Although Eid Milad un Nabi was observed on September 5 this year, the processions were postponed by the Markazi Milad Juloos Committee due to the Ganesh idol immersions taking place in the city at that time, which is an annual logistical and communal challenge in Hyderabad.
This adjustment has become almost a tradition in the city. Last year, the dates for Ganesh idol immersion (September 17) and Milad un Nabi (September 16, 2024) were back-to-back. To ensure that both festivals could be celebrated peacefully and without any overlap, Milad un Nabi was observed on its scheduled date but the main procession was taken out days later, on September 19.
During today’s processions, thousands of people are carrying religious flags, raising slogans, and making their way through the historic quarters. The rallies pass through key Old City routes, with police—cognizant of Hyderabad’s unique cultural landscape—imposing traffic restrictions and alternative routes to maintain order.
By staggering processions for Milad un Nabi after Ganesh immersions, Hyderabad’s religious leaders and civic authorities continue to demonstrate a commitment to peaceful coexistence, respecting the sentiments of both communities as large numbers gather to celebrate their faith and heritage.
