Prime Minister Narendra Modi targets Congress at Assam rally, declaring “People are my remote control” amid controversy over insults and AI video involving his late mother
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a sharp attack on the Congress, asserting that the people are his true masters and “remote control,” especially in the wake of an ongoing row over insults directed at him and his late mother, Heeraben Modi. Speaking at a public event in Assam’s Darang, Modi said he is a devotee of Lord Shiva and will “swallow the poison” of such abuses, reaffirming that he expresses his pain only before the people, not any political leadership.
The controversy began after verbal abuse against Modi and his mother was reportedly shouted from a Congress-RJD stage during a rally in Bihar, followed by the circulation of an AI-generated video targeting his mother. While the Congress maintains that no party leaders were present when the remarks were made, the BJP has strongly condemned both incidents, with leaders calling it a new low in Indian politics and accusing Congress of repeatedly insulting women and mothers.
Modi’s “remote control” comment is also significant, as he accused Congress of operating under the control of the Gandhi family—an allegation he has previously made against leaders like former PM Manmohan Singh and current Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, both of whom Congress denies are “remote controlled.” Modi further criticized Congress for its alleged disrespect to Assam’s icon Bhupen Hazarika when he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, and for “sprinkling salt” on the wounds of the people of Assam, referencing old remarks made by Kharge.
The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of prioritizing vote-bank politics over national interest, alleging that the party stands with infiltrators and opposes anti-terror operations such as Operation Sindoor. He claimed Congress has allied itself with anti-national forces and accused its leaders of supporting Pakistani narratives, vowing to continue development in Assam and calling on voters to reject Congress for what he described as a history of failures and disrespect.
