Celebrities arrive at the CID office for questioning in the online betting promotion investigation.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) continued its crackdown into the promotion of illegal online betting and gambling apps, summoning actress Nidhhi Agerwal, TV host Sreemukhi, and Instagram influencer Amrutha Chowdhary for questioning on Friday.
According to officials, all three appeared before investigators and were questioned for more than an hour regarding their alleged role in endorsing betting platforms banned in India.
CID Seeks Payment, Agency and Promotion Details
Sources said the CID asked the celebrities to disclose:
- Payments received for app promotions
- Number of betting companies they endorsed
- Details of managers, PR teams or agencies who coordinated the deals
- Communication records and agreements with the promoters
Officials are examining whether the celebrities were aware that the apps were illegal, and whether the endorsements contributed to luring users into unregulated gambling.
Case Transferred From Local Police to CID
The case—initially registered by local police—was recently handed over to the CID due to its wider reach and involvement of multiple film and digital personalities. Investigators believe the endorsement network may extend beyond Telangana.
As part of the expanded probe, actors Vijay Deverakonda and Prakash Raj have already been questioned. Their statements, along with financial data collected from agencies, are currently under analysis.
Further Action to Follow Based on Evidence
CID officials said that additional summons may be issued to other celebrities and influencers if their names appear in the digital trails or contracts seized so far.
“Further action will be initiated after we verify the statements and supporting evidence,” an official said.
The investigation continues.
