Paytm reassures users of uninterrupted UPI transactions amid UPI handle migration after Google Play notification
Payments and fintech company Paytm has issued a clarification regarding a recent notification from Google Play about changes to UPI (Unified Payments Interface) handles. Paytm emphasized that the notification was incomplete and may have caused confusion among users. The company reassured its customers that there is no disruption to UPI payments on the Paytm platform, with all consumer and merchant transactions continuing smoothly.
The update specifically affects recurring payments, such as subscription billing on platforms like YouTube Premium or Google One storage. Users making such recurring payments will need to change their old @paytm UPI handle to new bank-linked handles like @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi. For example, a UPI ID like abcd@paytm will now be abcd@pthdfc. Importantly, one-time UPI payments are unaffected and will continue as normal.
This transition in UPI handles follows Paytm’s approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP). Paytm is migrating to the new UPI handles as part of this process, with a deadline to complete the update for recurring payment mandates set for August 31, 2025. Google Play’s alert was issued in connection to this deadline.
Paytm assured users that this change is a straightforward update intended only to maintain uninterrupted recurring transactions while ensuring that all other UPI payment operations on Paytm remain unchanged and fully functional.
