Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlights the upcoming GST reforms, calling it a “double bonanza” for the poor, middle class, and traders.
A day before the reduced GST rates come into effect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday made a strong pitch for promoting swadeshi goods and highlighted that the upcoming next-generation GST reforms will accelerate India’s growth story.
In his address to the nation, PM Modi said that a ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ (savings festival) will begin on the first day of Navratri. He added that, coupled with the new income tax exemption, the reforms would serve as a “double bonanza” for people across different sections of society.
Emphasising equal participation of states, Modi urged them to boost manufacturing while keeping ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and swadeshi campaigns at the core of their efforts.
“On the first day of Navratri, the country is going to take an important and big step for Atmanirbhar Bharat. With the sunrise tomorrow, the next generation GST reforms will come into effect. A ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ will begin tomorrow. You will be able to buy things you like more easily,” he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the reforms would benefit the poor, middle class, neo middle class, youth, farmers, women, traders, and shopkeepers. “In this season of festivals, everyone’s happiness will increase,” he added.
Congratulating the nation, Modi said the reforms would attract investors, ease doing business, and further accelerate India’s growth story. He recalled how the introduction of GST in 2017 realised the ‘one nation-one tax’ dream by removing multiple taxes and tolls that earlier burdened businesses and consumers.
Highlighting the income tax exemption on earnings up to ₹12 lakh alongside GST reforms, Modi said the combined measures represent a “double bonanza” for the poor, neo-middle class, and middle class citizens of India.
