Saudi Arabia mourns the passing of Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh; PM Modi offers condolences calling it a profound loss to the Islamic world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his condolences on the passing away of Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, calling it a profound loss for the Kingdom and the wider Islamic world.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “Deepest condolences on the sad demise of the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Eminence Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kingdom and its people in this moment of grief.”
The Saudi Royal Court announced the Grand Mufti’s passing on Tuesday. Sheikh Al Al-Sheikh served as the head of the Council of Senior Scholars, the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, and the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League, making him one of the most influential clerics in the Muslim world.
According to the Royal Court, the funeral prayers were held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer on Tuesday.
In addition, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, ordered funeral prayers in absentia at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and all mosques across Saudi Arabia.
The Royal Court also released a statement highlighting Sheikh Al Al-Sheikh’s contributions, saying: “With his passing, the Kingdom and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar.”
Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended their condolences to the family of Sheikh Al Al-Sheikh, the Saudi people, and the global Muslim community, underscoring the scholar’s impact on Islamic thought and guidance.
