Sergio Gor expresses gratitude after being nominated as US Ambassador to India by Donald Trump.
Sergio Gor, White House personnel director, expressed profound gratitude to former President Donald Trump for nominating him as the US ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. On his official X account, Gor called it the “honour of my life” to represent the United States. He praised the Trump administration’s achievements in “Making America Great Again” and highlighted his pride in serving the American people.
Born in Uzbekistan during the Soviet era, Gor moved to Malta as a child and later attended university in the United States. He became active in Republican Party politics, initially working with Senator Rand Paul before becoming a fundraiser and book publisher for Trump’s presidential campaigns. Outside politics, Gor is also known for his past hobby as an amateur wedding DJ.
Donald Trump announced Gor’s nomination on his Truth Social platform, describing him as his “great friend” who has worked closely by his side for many years. Trump emphasized Gor’s critical role as Director of Presidential Personnel, where he helped hire nearly 4,000 “America First Patriots” across federal government departments, achieving over 95% staffing efficiency. Trump underscored his trust in Gor to further the administration’s agenda in India.
US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio endorsed Gor’s nomination. Vance called him a “great guy” who will make a “fantastic ambassador,” while Rubio described Gor as “an excellent representative of America” for managing vital bilateral relations with India. Their support reflects Gor’s perceived capability in strengthening ties between the two nations.
The nomination comes amidst increased tension in US-India trade relations, following Trump’s imposition of a 50% tariff on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty over India’s purchase of Russian oil. As ambassador, Gor will have the challenging task of navigating these complex diplomatic and economic issues to foster constructive engagement between the countries.
