SIT resumes search in Banglegudde forest, finds skeletal remains during Dharmasthala mass burial case probe
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the mass burial case in Dharmasthala resumed their search on Wednesday in the Banglegudde forest area near the Nethravathi bathing ghat. During the search, skeletal remains were discovered at several locations and collected by the SIT for investigation.
Reports suggest that human remains—including six skulls—were found at nine different spots, but the SIT has not officially confirmed these details yet. An SIT official said that while remains were definitely found, the operation is still ongoing and it is too early to share more information.
Sources indicated that the official inspection (mahazar) was completed at five spots where skeletal remains were located, with all evidence taken into SIT custody. The team also recovered some cloth pieces and collected soil samples. The search at additional identified sites will continue on Thursday.
Additionally, SIT sources told Deccan Herald that the skeletal remains found in the Banglegudde forest are part of a new, separate investigation and are not linked to previous mass burial sites or exhumations in the area.
