Actress posts on Instagram revealing her car was blocked by Maratha quota protesters amid ongoing demonstrations in South Mumbai
Actress Sumona Chakravarti shared a disturbing incident where her car was mobbed by protesters during the Maratha quota agitation in South Mumbai on August 31. The protests, led by Manoj Jarange at Azad Maidan, marked their third consecutive day with thousands demanding a 10% quota for Marathas under the OBC category. Sumona expressed concerns over her safety amid the chaos unfolding on the streets.
Describing the experience on her Instagram, Sumona detailed how a man wearing an orange stole banged on her car bonnet while others shouted slogans and banged on her windows. The mob blocked her car multiple times within a short span, leaving her feeling harassed and intimidated during her drive from Colaba to Fort.
Sumona also criticized the police presence, observing that officers were more engaged in chatting than maintaining law and order. She highlighted the disregard for civic sense, citing the littered streets filled with banana peels, plastic bottles, and filth as evidence of the unrest’s impact on public spaces.
The actress’s account sheds light on the tense atmosphere created by the ongoing protests and raises questions about public safety and police effectiveness amid mass demonstrations in the city.
