The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of Telangana over the next 24 hours. Districts like Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad are likely to be the most affected, with isolated areas near the state borders also expected to see heavy downpours. Officials said that this surge in rainfall is due to a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal, which is fueling these weather changes.
Apart from these districts, other regions such as Bhupalpally, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jagtial, Sircilla, Siddipet, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Sangareddy are also in the path of moderate to heavy rainfall. IMD has warned that gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph may accompany the rain, and people living in low-lying or flood-prone areas should stay alert.
The heavy rainfall over the last few days has already caused lakes and streams to overflow in several districts. Low-lying areas have been flooded, and unfortunately, two people have gone missing. In Mancherial, roads have been damaged due to continuous rain, while Adilabad district recorded over 10 cm of rain. Govindaraopet mandal in Warangal district received the highest rainfall, measuring an impressive 21.76 cm.
In response to the rising water levels and overflowing water bodies, officials have closed some public places like the Yedupayala Vana Durga Bhavani temple in Medak. Khammam and other districts are also facing road closures, and heavy inflows have led to disruptions on major highways such as the Medchal Highway in Hyderabad. The IMD’s warnings have put officials on high alert and they are working to ensure public safety during this period of severe weather.
