Two Telugu students, one of them identified as 21-year-old Rishiteja Rapolu from Hyderabad, lost their lives in a devastating road accident in Essex city, United Kingdom. Rapolu was pursuing higher studies in the UK, with his family residing in Boduppal, Hyderabad. The group of nine friends and roommates, all residents of Ilford–Barking, were headed to Southend-on-Sea when the crash took place early Monday.
Essex police reported that the accident occurred on the Dual Carriageway A130 at Rayleigh Spur roundabout. Two students with critical injuries were airlifted to Royal London Hospital but ultimately succumbed to their wounds. In response, Essex Fire and Rescue Service closed down several miles of the dual carriageway between Sadlers Farm roundabout and Rettendon Turnpike to facilitate rescue and investigation operations.
Authorities confirmed the arrest of the two vehicle drivers on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. The accused men, aged 23 and 24, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
