Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has directed all districts to intensify checks and establish detention centres for illegal foreign nationals.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all District Magistrates to launch “immediate and strict” action against illegal foreign nationals residing anywhere in the state.
According to an official press release issued on Saturday, the Chief Minister ordered the establishment of temporary detention centres in every district, where undocumented foreigners — particularly suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingya Muslims — will be housed until verification is completed.
The statement said authorities will follow a “completely legal process” to identify such individuals and deport them to their respective countries once verification is finished.
Yogi Adityanath emphasised that law and order, national security, and social harmony remain top priorities for the state government, and that Uttar Pradesh will not allow “any unlawful presence” to take root within its borders.
Trigger: Surge in illegal movement after SIR drives
The instructions come amid intelligence reports suggesting that, following the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises in several states, a significant number of alleged illegal migrants are attempting to flee West Bengal.
Inputs indicate that many individuals, seeking to evade strict scrutiny in Bengal, are trying to enter neighbouring states and move deeper into the country in search of “safer zones.”
Uttar Pradesh’s vast geography, extensive inter-state connectivity, and proximity to Nepal — with which India shares an open border — make the state particularly sensitive to such movement, officials said.
Enhanced verification in sensitive districts
The government has ordered intensified field verification, identity checks, and local intelligence operations in high-risk areas, especially those falling under the National Capital Region (NCR) and districts in western UP such as Mathura, Agra, Meerut, and Lucknow.
Officials have also been instructed to ensure that temporary detention centres comply with all norms, and remain fully secure so that detainees cannot escape or go missing during documentation and verification procedures.
