US Senator Lindsey Graham criticizes countries buying Russian oil, tying purchases to civilian deaths amid Ukraine conflict.
US Senator Lindsey Graham on Thursday strongly criticized countries including India, China, and Brazil for continuing to purchase Russian oil, asserting that their actions are fueling Russia’s war efforts and causing civilian casualties. Graham condemned these nations for “propping up Putin’s war machine” by buying cheap Russian oil, highlighting the deadly consequences of their purchases, which have led to innocent deaths, including those of children. He warned that while India is already facing repercussions, other countries will soon experience similar consequences.
The criticism comes amid renewed Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, which struck multiple locations early Thursday. These assaults, described by the US special envoy on Ukraine as undermining former President Donald Trump’s peace efforts, resulted in at least 23 fatalities in Kyiv, including civilians. Kyiv’s military administration head Tymur Tkachenko confirmed the death toll on Telegram.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked that Trump was displeased by the attack but not surprised, referencing the prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the ongoing geopolitical tensions surrounding the war.
