With IMD forecasting heavy rainfall in Telangana, CM Revanth Reddy has asked officials and disaster management agencies to be on high alert.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall in Telangana over the next two days, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday directed officials to remain fully prepared to tackle any emergencies.
The CM instructed district Collectors to review the situation at regular intervals and ensure that precautionary measures are in place to minimize damage. He emphasized that people in low-lying areas should be evacuated in advance and shifted to relief camps if required.
Reddy also called for halting traffic on flood-affected roads and ordered checks on the safety of causeways in case of rising water levels. “Public safety must be given priority over vehicle movement,” he said.
The Chief Minister asked the electricity department to take special steps for uninterrupted power supply and to immediately address risks such as dangling power lines that could become dangerous during heavy rain.
Appealing to citizens to stay indoors during downpours, Reddy instructed agencies including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to be on high alert to handle possible flooding in Hyderabad.
According to the IMD’s Met Centre in Hyderabad, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Nirmal, Nizamabad, Warangal, Mahabubnagar and other districts on August 26.
On September 26, heavy rain is likely in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Hyderabad, and other districts, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Telangana.
The forecast further adds that Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Mahabubnagar and surrounding districts are also likely to see heavy rain on September 27, with thunderstorms and gusty winds continuing across all districts of the state.
