KTR and Harish Rao claim Basti Dawakhanas lack medicines and facilities under Congress rule.
BRS Leaders Claim Neglect of Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad, Say Medicines in Short Supply
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and senior leader T. Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that Basti Dawakhanas across Hyderabad are being neglected by the Congress government, claiming that most centres are functioning without proper medicines, staff and basic facilities.
The BRS leaders conducted simultaneous inspections across all four zones of Greater Hyderabad and interacted with patients, doctors and support staff. The Basti Dawakhana network—urban primary health centres introduced during the previous BRS government—was once seen as a successful urban healthcare model, offering free primary health services and diagnostics.
‘Only one-third medicines available now’
Speaking at the Ibrahimnagar Basti Dawakhana in Khairatabad, KTR said:
“During our government, 450 Basti Dawakhanas were operational, including 350 in Hyderabad. Today, not even basic medicines are being supplied. Only one-third of medicines are available and diagnostic services are being reduced.”
He alleged that the Congress government is deliberately dismantling people-friendly initiatives launched by the BRS.
Expired medicines being supplied: Harish Rao
At Old Lingampally Basti Dawakhana, Harish Rao said that 110 medicines and 134 diagnostic tests were earlier provided at each centre.
“Now, people are not even getting essential BP and diabetes medicines. How will the poor survive if even free healthcare is denied?” he asked.
At Rasoolpura Basti Dawakhana in Secunderabad, BRS spokesperson M. Krishank claimed that expired medicines were being dispensed to patients during their visit. He said this exposes dangerous health negligence under the current administration.
BRS leaders demand revival
The BRS demanded:
- Immediate supply of essential medicines
- Repair of defunct equipment
- Appointment of doctors and nursing staff
- Continuation of free diagnostic services
They alleged that the Congress government has no healthcare roadmap and is only focused on political vendetta instead of public service.
BRS leaders participated in inspections
The inspection drive included several leaders:
- MP V. Ravichandra
- MLAs P. Kaushik Reddy, V. Prashanth Reddy, M. Gopal, P. Rajeshwar Reddy, K. Venkatesh
- Former ministers S. Niranjan Reddy, E. Dayakar Rao, Dr. T. Rajaiah
- MLCs T. Ravinder Rao, D. Sravan, L. Ramana
- GHMC corporators and local BRS cadre
The party said the inspection campaign will continue in other districts over the next few days to expose “Congress failures in public welfare.”
