Fire engulfs the Nowgam police station in Srinagar after a late-night explosion on November 14, 2025.
At least eight people were injured — three of them critically — after a massive explosion ripped through the Nowgam police station in Srinagar late Friday night (November 14, 2025), officials said.
The blast occurred around 11:20 p.m., triggering a huge fire that engulfed the station compound. Several vehicles parked inside the premises were destroyed, and the tremors of the explosion were felt across the surrounding area.
The injured, many suffering severe burn wounds, were rushed to nearby hospitals in Srinagar.
Initial inputs indicate that a joint team of Jammu & Kashmir Police and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was examining the explosives seized recently from an inter-State terror module when the explosion occurred. However, officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the blast or the final casualty count.
The police had earlier recovered around 2,900 kg of improvised explosive device (IED)-making material, including ammonium nitrate, during raids across multiple states, including Haryana’s Faridabad. These materials had reportedly been stored inside the Nowgam police station as part of the ongoing investigation.
The terror module was unearthed after Nowgam police detected pro–Jaish-e-Mohammad posters on October 19. Seven locals were arrested, leading investigators to two doctors — Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr. Muzamil Ahmad Ganaie (alias Musaib) — who were later identified as key members of the network. According to police, the module was actively involved in fundraising, logistics, arms procurement, and acquiring bomb-making materials.
A senior official said that while the source of the explosion is being probed, teams are assessing whether the blast was accidental or part of a larger plot relating to the seized explosives.
