India bloc leaders protesting against Bihar SIR outside the Parliament.
The India bloc continued their protest on Tuesday outside the Parliament, expressing strong opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. They accused the Election Commission of “vote theft” and irregularities in the electoral roll revision. Prominent leaders like Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav were part of the protest, which has been ongoing since the monsoon session began on July 21.
During Tuesday’s demonstration, the protestors displayed banners with slogans such as “Stop vote chori,” highlighting their belief that the voter list revision amounts to “silent invisible rigging.” The atmosphere inside the Parliament became tense as MPs from ruling and opposition parties clashed, leading to the adjournment of both houses until the afternoon.
Members of the Telangana Congress also joined the protests, pushing for the central government to release urea for farmers in the state. Their demand drew attention to agricultural concerns amid the political unrest.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi continued his 16-day ‘Voter Adhikar Rally’ in Bihar. On Tuesday, he visited Aurangabad as part of the campaign aimed at covering over 20 districts and traveling around 1,300 kilometers. Rahul Gandhi used the platform to highlight alleged irregularities in the voter list and rally public support.
In response to the accusations, the Election Commission held a press conference on Sunday. They strongly denied any rigging and challenged Rahul Gandhi to present a signed affidavit with solid evidence to back his claims. The row shows no sign of settling as political forces remain sharply divided over the SIR exercise.
