Opposition MPs throw torn copies of Bills at Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a heated Lok Sabha session.
On Wednesday, August 20, angry Opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha expressed their protest by throwing torn copies of three contentious Bills at Union Home Minister Amit Shah while he was tabling a proposal in Parliament. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, showing pieces of paper falling around Shah as he read out the Bill.
The Centre has introduced three Bills: The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, and The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill. These Bills are aimed at removing a jailed prime minister or chief ministers from their posts under specific conditions.
The key highlight is the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which proposes that if a prime minister, Union minister, chief minister, or any state or Union Territory minister is arrested or detained on serious criminal charges for 30 consecutive days, they will lose their position on the 31st day. The offences triggering this removal must carry a jail term of at least five years.
This move has sparked heated debate in the Parliament, with Opposition members strongly opposing the Bills, leading to the dramatic protest witnessed in the Lok Sabha.
