Combined representation of an eco-friendly clay Ganesh idol and the HMDA logo promoting sustainable Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Hyderabad
To encourage environmental sustainability during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is distributing 1 lakh eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols free of cost across Hyderabad. The initiative aims to minimize the use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, which harm water bodies upon immersion. The distribution will take place at 34 fixed locations citywide from August 24 to August 26, including popular spots like Silent Valley Hills, KBR Park, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Shilparamam, and more.
Alongside fixed distribution centers, HMDA is also deploying mobile units to gated communities and Resident Welfare Associations for wider reach. Officials and supervisory teams have been assigned to ensure smooth execution. HMDA has actively promoted eco-friendly idols since 2017 to protect the environment by reducing harmful pollutants from PoP idol immersion. Citizens are encouraged to collect these clay Ganesh idols during the drive and contribute to cleaner, greener celebrations.
