Israeli airstrikes target Houthi leaders in Yemen’s Sanaa following drone attacks intercepted over Israeli airspace.
Israel launched airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Thursday, targeting Houthi leaders, according to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Israeli state media. The airstrikes followed the interception of two drones launched from Yemen towards Israeli territory. The first drone triggered air raid sirens as it entered Israeli airspace near Gaza and was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force, while the second drone was shot down before crossing into Israeli skies. No casualties or damage have been reported from these drone attempts.
The Houthi group, which controls large parts of northern Yemen, has been conducting drone and missile attacks on Israel since November 2023. They claim these actions are acts of solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. Israel has consistently intercepted most of these projectiles with its defense systems.
In response, Israel has carried out retaliatory strikes against Houthi-controlled areas, including infrastructure targets like airports, power stations, and ports in Sanaa and Hodeidah. The cycle of attacks underscores the escalating tensions linked to the broader regional conflict involving Yemen, Israel, and Gaza.
