GHMC workers and cranes deployed at Hussain Sagar for smooth and safe Ganesh idol immersion during the festival
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has made extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe Ganesh idol immersion in Hussain Sagar and other water bodies across the city. The corporation has deployed 14,486 sanitation workers, 134 static cranes, 269 mobile cranes, along with 200 swimmers and boats to manage the immersion activities effectively. This massive workforce is committed to facilitating devotees’ celebrations without any hindrance.
A coordination meeting involving representatives from the police, HYDRAA, revenue, irrigation, water board, medical and health, R&B, tourism, electricity, and other government departments was held to finalize comprehensive plans. These efforts are aimed at preventing any unfortunate incidents, ensuring safety and convenience for all participants. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan is personally overseeing the entire immersion process to maintain a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.
To maintain cleanliness, 5 lakh garbage bags have been distributed to collect waste from Ganesh pandals. On immersion day, 2,000 sweepers, 102 mini tippers, 125 JCBs, and 30 sweeping machines will be deployed to ensure efficient garbage removal. Furthermore, 309 mobile toilets and over 56,000 lighting points have been installed. Health safety measures include 7 medical camps and ambulances operating in three shifts to provide prompt emergency services.
This year, the immersion will take place in 20 major tanks including Hussain Sagar, Saroor Nagar Tank, IDL Tank, Safilguda Tank, and Sunnam Tank. Additionally, 74 artificial immersion centers have been created to reduce the pressure on main water bodies. GHMC has formed committees for pothole and road repairs, street light installation, and tree pruning along procession routes. Efforts are also made to remove hanging wires and tree branches obstructing the pathways. Over 10,000 potholes have been filled, and the GHMC, in collaboration with the Pollution Control Board, has distributed 2 lakh eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols free of cost to encourage environmentally safe practices.
