India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana celebrates her rise to No. 1 in ICC ODI batting rankings after a stellar performance
India women’s cricket team vice-captain and star opener Smriti Mandhana has reclaimed the top position in the ICC ODI batting rankings, six years after last holding the No. 1 spot. The latest rankings released by the ICC highlight Mandhana’s rise following her impressive century in the final of the recent tri-series held in Colombo, where India competed against Sri Lanka and South Africa.
Mandhana surpassed South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt, who dropped to third place after low scores of 27 and 28 in the ODI series against the West Indies, resulting in a loss of 19 rating points. Currently, Mandhana leads with 727 rating points, closely followed by England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt with 719, while Wolvaardt also holds 719 points but is ranked third due to tie-breaking rules.
Among other Indian batters, Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur rank 14th and 15th, respectively. The performance of these players underscores the strength and depth of India’s women cricket batting lineup in the international arena.
Looking ahead, the India women’s cricket team is preparing for their upcoming tour of England later this month, where they will play five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals against the English side, aiming to build on recent successes and further cement their status among the world’s top teams.
