CCTV footage circulates widely after five-year-old girl mauled by stray dogs at Telangana Model School, prompting court action
The Bellampalli junior civil court has taken suo motu cognisance of a stray dog attack on a five-year-old girl in Telangana. The court has ordered Mancherial Collector Kumar Deepak, Kasipet mandal panchayat officer Sk Shabdir Ali, and Muthyampelli panchayat secretary Meghana to appear before the chairman of the Legal Services Committee in Bellampalli on September 9.
The incident occurred on September 5, when a pack of stray dogs mauled Chopari Akshita, a Class 1 student, at Telangana Model School in Muthyampelli village, Kasipet mandal. Akshita had accompanied her mother, a sweeper at the school, on a holiday. The child was rescued and rushed to the hospital and is now reportedly stable. CCTV footage of the attack spread widely across social media, drawing public attention.
Local villagers expressed frustration over the persistent stray dog menace, accusing authorities of negligence in controlling the situation. The court’s swift intervention has been welcomed by the residents of the former Adilabad district, who said fear of dog attacks has become widespread, affecting the community’s safety and peace of mind.
Authorities have been urged to take immediate and effective measures to prevent such incidents and ensure public safety, especially for children attending school and vulnerable groups. The court’s directive highlights the growing concern and the urgent need for municipal action on animal control and public health standards.
