Beneficiaries occupy GHMC 2BHK flats as authorities prepare to reallocate unoccupied houses.
Thousands of beneficiaries of 2BHK houses under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have taken possession of their flats after receiving notices that gave them 10 days to occupy. However, according to a recent report by The Hindu, around 23,255 allotted houses remain unoccupied despite being allotted years ago. The GHMC plans to issue second notices soon and may reallocate the unoccupied flats to the poorest among the 2BHK beneficiaries.
GHMC sanctioned approximately 1 lakh 2BHK houses, out of which 65,743 were allotted by October 2023. Additionally, about 10,000 2BHK houses will be allocated to people who will be relocated due to the rejuvenation of the Musi River. Beneficiaries waiting for these houses have expressed their preference for flats within the city to ensure their livelihoods are not disrupted.
