AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announces support for Justice B Sudershan Reddy in the Vice Presidential election
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has announced that his party will support the opposition’s vice-presidential candidate, B Sudershan Reddy, for the upcoming September 9 election. Owaisi mentioned in a post on X that the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office requested the party’s support for Justice Reddy, describing him as a “fellow Hyderabadi and a respected jurist.” Owaisi also conveyed his good wishes to Justice Reddy after speaking to him personally.
B Sudershan Reddy is a retired Supreme Court judge and was named the united opposition’s candidate after the mid-term resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, which led to this election. The NDA has nominated Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the post.
Voting for the vice-presidential election will take place on September 9, with members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha casting their votes through a secret ballot. The result of the election is expected to be announced the same evening.
Owaisi’s decision to support B Sudershan Reddy is expected to boost the opposition’s efforts, though the NDA holds the numerical advantage in Parliament. Justice Reddy’s background includes tenure as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and as a Supreme Court judge from 2007 to 2011.
