Union Minister Bandi Sanjay alleges that KT Rama Rao used vehicles linked to luxury car smuggling accused Basarath Khan, sparking a political row in Telangana.
Union Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay, stirred a political storm on Monday by alleging that BRS working president KT Rama Rao was seen using luxury cars imported by Basarath Khan, who is currently under investigation in a high-profile smuggling case. Khan was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad, in connection with a luxury vehicle import scam. Sanjay questioned whether the cars were purchased at fair market value and raised concerns over the mode of payment, suggesting possibilities of benami transactions, masked income, or money laundering.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bandi Sanjay wrote, “Is Car Party running on smuggled luxury cars? Why is KT Rama Rao seen in land cruisers imported by scam-accused Basarath Khan? Why are they registered under companies linked to KCR’s family? Doesn’t this make KCR’s family direct beneficiaries of the conspiracy?” He further stated that the matter would be referred to the concerned investigation departments for a detailed probe.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) strongly rejected the allegations. Party spokesperson Manne Krishank responded sharply, questioning the Union Minister’s priorities. “Did Modi ji make Bandi Sanjay MoS Home to check who buys which car? Import of luxury vehicles is governed by the Centre, not KT Rama Rao,” he said. He also accused BJP leaders of being obsessed with targeting KTR while ignoring issues like the urea shortage, Group 1 exam scams, and other pressing state matters.
Krishank also alleged selective silence from the Telangana BJP, pointing out their inaction over Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on Congress Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. He claimed that BJP MP D Arvind appeared to have prior knowledge of pending prosecution against KT Rama Rao, raising questions about information leaks from the Governor’s Office or the Chief Minister’s Office. “Bandi Sanjay should question the Centre, not KT Rama Rao,” he added.
