Intelligence chief B Shivadhar Reddy appointed as Telangana’s new DGP, succeeding Dr Jitender who retires on September 30.
The Telangana government on Friday appointed intelligence chief B Shivadhar Reddy as the new Director General of Police (DGP), replacing incumbent Dr Jitender, who will retire on September 30.
A 1994-batch IPS officer, Shivadhar Reddy has been transferred and posted as DGP (Coordination) while also being given full additional charge as head of the police force until further orders.
Reddy has held several key postings during his career. After the formation of Telangana in 2014, he became the first Chief of the Intelligence Department in the rank of Inspector General, a position considered critical for the new state’s security establishment.
Following his promotion to Additional DGP, Reddy served in various departments including Personnel Wing, Railways, and Road Safety.
After the Congress came to power in December 2023, he was reinstated as Chief of Intelligence in the rank of Additional DGP.
In August 2024, following his promotion to the rank of DGP, Reddy continued to head the Intelligence Department, reinforcing his reputation as one of Telangana’s most trusted officers in security and intelligence matters.
Apart from his work in Telangana, Reddy has also served as the Commissioner of Police in Visakhapatnam, adding to his wide-ranging policing experience across different domains.
